The Tuxedo Park Library (TPL) is an Association Library chartered by the New York State Department of Education to provide library services to the residents of the Town of Tuxedo. Library cards are issued to Town of Tuxedo residents as a mechanism to offer library materials and services to fulfill its mission. Proof of residency is required to receive a library card. All cardholders accept responsibility for all use made of their library card and agree to report its loss or a change of address, telephone number or email address.

Library cards can be obtained at the library’s front desk. The Library issues a full service library card to residents who show photo ID that contains a Tuxedo address. This card qualifies the user for direct access, that is, the ability to borrow materials from Tuxedo Park Library and any other library within the Ramapo Catskill Library System. All first time applicants may begin borrowing materials upon acceptable registration. The library card will be mailed to the applicant to further confirm valid residency in Tuxedo.

One of the following containing your name and Tuxedo address is required for all adult patrons These may not be expired for a valid photo ID to be acceptable:

  • Motor Vehicle driver’s license
  • Motor Vehicle non-driver photo ID
  • Passport or Consulate Card

A patron with a photo ID showing a non-Tuxedo address must provide an alternate form of address verification. A post office box is not proof of residency. Alternate forms of identification include:

  • Current utility bill (i.e. gas, electric, water)
  • Current property tax bill
  • Current mortgage loan bill
  • Apartment lease
  • Car registration or insurance card
  • Proof of residency from the Tuxedo Town Clerk

For residents age 18 and under a parent/legal guardian must present the same documentation as above. The child must be present when applying for this card. Parents/Guardians are responsible for all fines incurred on children’s cards.

Individuals who live outside RCLS but who own, lease or rent property within Tuxedo are also eligible for a full service library card by showing photo ID and one of the alternative forms of identification listed above.

Au pairs and residents of a nursing home or group home/shelter located within Tuxedo are considered permanent residents and are eligible for a full service library card by showing photo ID and one of the alternative forms of identification listed above. A letter of residency issued from the au pair’s employer or the director of the nursing home or shelter are required.

Teachers who work in the Tuxedo School District but reside outside the RCLS area may apply for an annual (school year) library card. One proof of permanent address and picture ID from the school district must be provided. This card is valid for one year, renewable by showing the proof of employment and residency at the beginning of each school year. No direct access services are provided to this card holder.

Employees of businesses located within Tuxedo but reside outside the RCLS area are eligible for a temporary library card. Photo ID and one proof of address as well as proof of employment in Tuxedo are required. No direct access services are provided to this card holder. This card is valid for one year, renewable by showing the ID and proof of employment each year.

A non-resident of the Ramapo Catskill Library System, living in the Town of Tuxedo for less than one year at a temporary address who does not pay taxes to the town, may still use the resources of the Tuxedo Park Library upon payment of a $25.00 fee and a $25.00 refundable deposit. This fee entitles the borrower to borrow only 10 Tuxedo Park Library items at a time. Card expires one year from the date of issue. Borrower is not entitled to direct access privileges or interlibrary loan.

The $25.00 deposit will be returned to the borrower when the library card is turned in at the library and there are no outstanding fines or items checked out on the library card. A refund check will be mailed to the borrower at their permanent address. A temporary registration form must be filled out and fees collected. Give completed form to bookkeeper.

Lost Card
A lost card should be reported immediately. A replacement card may be obtained with photo ID and payment of $3.00.
